Wen Chou sat atop his horse and paced back and forth the lines, calmly relaying order to his captains. Suddenly the large western gates of Bei Ping opened with a lurch. Wen Chou eyed the sally with suspicion. By gods, the White Riders! The sight was stunning yet frightening. Keep calm.
"Captain Yuang Hai!" Wen Chou called over to the captain, who was starring in awe at the force emerging from the west gate, "Rally our forces and send a messenger to Yuan Tan saying that he should do the same."
"Aye sir!" He snapped out of the entrancing sight and started to delegate orders to other men under his rank. The camp started to vibrate with life again as men began to fall into line. Wen Chou's men took the same formation as Yuan Tan's. The Archers added onto the line already created by Yuan Tan's units.
The archers began to fire, and Wen Chou oversaw the setups of the anti-calvary barricades. Spikes attached to a log, the horse's nightmare. The men began to distribute them across the entire line at certain intervals. The barricades themselves would prove ineffective against infantry, but maybe would force them into a choke-hold.
Behind the lines, the catapult squadrons began to fire. But not large boulders, instead - like onagers, they launched many smaller rocks. This would prove more effective against Yue's charge.
Wen Chou's men. 490 Bei Swordsmen 490 Bei Spearmen 490 Bei Calvary 495 Bei Bowmen
5 Catapults
SUMMARY:
Wen Chou's men prepare for the charge. Wen Chou's army begin to fire 'for real' beside Yuan Tan's archers. Wen Chou has begun to set up anti-calvary barricades in front of the Yuan host. Wen Chou's catapults have begun to fire.

OOC: I heard rumors that "The Battle for Bei Ping" might be auto-resolved. Regardless, throwing this in here, just in case. Also, the mannerism of how far along Gongsun Zan's army has charged wasn't really specified... so... taking pains to make accommodations for whatever scenario assaults us. I pray you take the time to read. I apologize for the fact, however, that it will not be entertaining for that reason as there is just much to cover.
Keeping The Dew's Cool Theme: 8th OST from Rome: Total War The dangerous thing during war was not death. Death was the undesired effect. In fact, there were numerous dangerous things during war. Panicking was one of them, panicking led death to more death which was more of an undesired effect of war. And obviously, the consequences of high death rates included equally numerous problems, including demoralization, which only helped in increasing death rates.
It is for that reason that Shen Pei was as equally delighted in the cries of death from afar as well as annoyed that Gongsun Zan's archers were able to hit his cavalry. However, casualties were a large part of war. Discipline however...
...Shen Pei drew his sword from his left side, raising it high above the air, riding to the eastern flank that had suffered the cavalry losses."...NORTHERN FLANK BEI CALVARY AND BEI SCOUT CALVARY: LOOSE FORMATION! LET THERE BE THREE YARDS BETWEEN ALL OF YOU. HOLD POSITION FOR FURTHER ORDERS."...Cavalry was a typical tactic. An effective tactic. Noting on Yuan Tan's overall battle line formation in the south, he too noted that this was indeed a shared knowledge. Now, it wasn't for the matter that Shen Pei believed in reciting these otherwise obvious things to himself mentally as if to play himself off as being horribly obvious---it was, in a sense, a mannerism to which he eased his mind while still keeping a focus.
Keeping himself riding behind his forces so that his men would not have to be forced to constantly look at his injured state, Shen Pei began to ride to the south, sword raised to reflect in the sun (and possibly making himself a target for enemy arrows), Shen Pei went on to relay the same "LOOSE FORMATION" to the southern flank cavalry units of his army regiment.
Loose formation. Useful for simply keeping men further apart and less vulnerable to arrow fire. Not so useful in charging, unless utilized to bring the men together in a charge---Shen Pei needed to set up drums. Quickly with the flick of his wrist and some steadying of his sheath with his left hand, he sheathed his blade again, before taking the reins of his horse in both hands, riding to the Bei Axemen were were lined very thinly, looking at the supplies that were gathered up by them, he saluted the nearest soldier to catch his attention. Suddenly snapping to upon seeing his commanding officer's recognition, he was beset upon by Shen Pei's next tirade."YOU! Inform your division: I want twenty drums constructed, quickly, lined up behind your division. Your division shall be in charge of relaying the 'drum orders' to our army!"Curses. Shen Pei had only himself to blame for his own forgetfulness. Recognizing the order, the soldier quickly passed on the news, quickly changing the otherwise dully standing "last line of defense" into sappers of war, working quickly as they could.
Finished with their construction of the anti-cavalry barricade field, the Bei Crossbowmen divisions quickly retreated in a thinly spread out line before the Bei Archers, forcing themselves all to crouch or kneel, their shovels quickly dropped off back in the supply wagons they were originally taken from. They would wait for the next order. Section Summary: -Shen Pei Has Ordered The Cavalry Divisions Into Loose Formations To Lessen Casualties From Archer Fire! -The Cavalry Divisions Are Ordered To Resume Into Tight Formations When Charging! -Construction Of War Drums Has Been Ordered Of The Standing 100 Bei Axemen!Arrival & Startling Discoveries After hard trudging up the mountain with the additional weight of shovels, the 200 Bei Archers had arrived. They, who had been ordered by Shen Pei from the start to settle in at the mid-height at the front of the mountain (facing the city of Bei Ping) began to get ready. A hundred of them immediately began utilizing their shovels to make the rocks below them less... stable. It appeared to be the reason as to why Shen Pei had equipped them thus in the first place. Thankfully, their stamina wasn't too depleted thanks to several days of preparatory rest and efficient utilization of supplies...
...And indeed... with Gongsun Zan's riders raging across the plains in a charge, what better way to take out the southern-charging force then a land/rock slide?
The other division of 100 Bei Archers however, were quick to notice the southern-advancing deployment of Gongsun Zan's forces. With a quick writing from several of the archers, they quickly aimed and fired off ten rounds (hoping that one of the shots would go in the wind's favor) to land in front of Gao Gan's western-advancing army as opposed to on it. If at least even one of the note-equipped arrows made it and Gao Gan was at the forefront, he would find one of the identical notes reading simply:Simple, but enough to understand that Gao Gan's forces would need to get themselves ready for the combat to come. Specifically for cavalry.
They could only hope. But this division of Bei Archers also had orders at hand. The other division of 100 Bei Archers were preparing a rock slide.
Hoping to utilize the mountain in advantageous manner (as enemy arrows would have to work against gravity to go up versus the less need for an arc to go down), the other united prepared a volley and then fired at the archers at the wall, proceeding afterward in adherence to the previously ordered "fire at will" command given by Shen Pei. Section Summary: -The 200 Bei Archer Detachment Have Arrived To Their Position! (Mid-Way Up The Mountain, Facing Towards The City Of Bei Ping) -100 Bei Archers Are Utilizing Their Shovels To Begin Setting Up For A Rock/Land Slide! -The Other 100 Bei Archers Have Attempted To Inform Gao Gan Of Gongsun Zan's Southern Advancing Forces, Primarily Composed Of Cavalry! -The Other 100 Bei Archers Have Begun To Fire At Will At The Soldiers At The Top Of Bei Ping's Walls On The East Wall Using The Mountain Height To Their (Hopeful) Advantage! The Flaming White With-Black-Spots Riders! OOC: This scenario is only to be adhered if either:
- A) Gongsun Zan's charging army is still a length's away from making contact.
B) Gongsun Zan's charging army is expansive enough to still have a part of its army that is not engaging Shen Pei's army. C) Gongsun Zan's army is charging primarily towards Wen Chou's &/or Yuan Tan's battle lines. ...One of the rounds of the "fecal matter" Great Trebuchet ammo was loaded. Pinching their noses in horrible disgust as they were doing so, the manning Bei Swordsmen were crying as the fumes assaulted every orifice of their body. In turn, the other Great Trebuchet was loaded with broken up, oil-doused rocks, as per Shen Pei's orders.A) If A Part Of Gongsun Zan's Army Is Charging Shen Pei's Army But Is Far Enough To Not Be Within Engagement Ranges"FIRE THE FECAL MATTER! RIGHT BEFORE THEIR ARMIES! LET'S SEE HOW THEIR HORSES HANDLE THIS!"...The fecal matter would be thrown, a trail of feces following after it in the air, before it would begin to break up naturally. Careening through the otherwise clean air, the slightly hardened ball of 2000 soldier's worth of feces would *CRACK* and break up, exploding into a gigantic field on the plains, with the most ATROCIOUS smell to ever hit the battlefield thus far. Soldiers or horses close enough to the landing of the "feces shot" might even get hit by some of the debris. The smell alone might have even been debilitating.
And that was when the oiled up rocks were lit with fire. Quickly spreading, the aim adjusted accordingly, the shot was aimed accordingly at the exact same location as the fecal matter. And as they were rocks, not all of them would land onto the feces, but would either miss the enemy army entirely or hit a stray soldier or horse right on.
If even one flaming rock were to enter the vicinity of the toxic fumes... Quite possibly, the GREATEST BLUE FIRE ON A BATTLEFIELD, EVER would occur, blowing up the ground around it into BLUE FIRE inferno, the feces providing a strong fuel with which to burn. Or maybe it would just be flaming poo on the battlefield. In which case, any nearing soldiers would be assaulted with the smell of burning feces.B) If A Part Of Gongsun Zan's Army Is Charging Shen Pei's Army And Is Within Engagement Ranges"FIRE THE FECAL MATTER! RIGHT INTO THE MIDDLE OF THEIR ARMY! DIVIDE THEIR FORCES!"[/color] The above would be played out, except both shots would be shot directly into the middle of Gongsun Zan's eastern-advancing/charging army, hoping splattering many enemies in the blinding smell of two-thousand men's concentrated feces. Burning feces.
Once in range, though, the 200 Bei Crossbowmen would be ordered to fire as soon as possible in an alternating volley at the charging Eastern forces of Gongsun Zan's. This would be followed by an almost simultaneous volley of the 800 Bei Archers into the advancing enemy forces.
Orders were quickly relayed as well and the anti-cavalry field was set up accordingly for just this moment: Should the opposing Gongsun Zan forces approach more dangerously closer then would be expected, the Bei Cavalry would charge out first, followed shortly by the Bei Scout Cavalry. This, too depended on:A) Gongsun Zan's army would advance solely towards the anti-cavalry field:...This would mean that whatever cavalry units Gongsun Zan's forces would be charging would be taking casualties on the anti-cavalry field. Regardless, the Bei Cavalry on both the northern and southern flanks would be charged with riding on the sides of the field, using their spears to hit whatever soldiers came close to those sides to keep them within the anti-cavalry field. The Bei Scout Cavalry would be charged with charging past the Bei Cavalry, to reach the further ends, and attack the slower infantry towards the rear before circling around, still attacking, before they could come around to the opposing flank of Shen Pei's battle line (as in the Northern Flank [if they survived] would become the Southern Flank & vice versa). The slower Bei Cavalry however were forced to make a tight loop and return to their prospective flanks, while Shen Pei assessed the situation. B) Gongsun Zan's army would advance solely towards the openings on the sides of the anti-cavalry field:...Then, Shen Pei's cavalry would charge, as if one unit, straight ahead, until they got to the very end (if they survived) of the advancing army, before turning around and attempting to hit into enemy flanks. C) Gongsun Zan's army would advance relatively evenly towards both the anti-cavalry field and the openings on the sides of Shen Pei's battle line:Shen Pei's cavalry would charge, utilizing the Bei Cavalry as screen to target primarily enemy cavalry, while the Bei Scout Cavalry would be utilied to target enemy infantry. D) Gongsun Zan's army would advance primarily more towards Yuan Tan's and/or Wen Chou's battle lines:...Then, the cavalry overall would be ordered to wait and conserve their strength. In any situation, if charging, while doing so, they would drop their "loose" formation into a "tight" formation as they were about to engage the enemy for maximum casualties. If faced against spears, they were ordered to graze along the sides, acting as a screen for the Bei Scout Cavalry who would be racing for the rearmost of the charging force before turning around to engage. ...Meanwhile, the catapult would be ordered to fire on the city wall again. Section Summary: -A "feces"/fire Great Trebuchet combo has been utilized against the advancing/charging Eastern Army of Gongsun Zan! (Read the above to see which way the Great Trebuchets were fired, pending on the situation. If another situation was used, assume they would be used in combination anyways at the army in general) -The 200 Bei Crossbowmen have completed the anti-cavalry field! -The 200 Bei Crossbowmen have fired an alternating volley at the advancing/charging army of Gongsun Zan! -The 800 Bei Archers have fired an alternating volley at the advancing/charging army of Gongsun Zan! -The Catapult has been utilized against the Eastern wall of Bei Ping with a large boulder! Shen Pei's Army- 1000 Bei Bowmen
- 200 Bei Swordsmen (Both Divisions Of 100 Manning A Great Trebuchet)
- 200 Bei Scout Cavalry
- 175 Bei Cavalry
- 200 Bei Axemen (2nd Division Of 100 Manning A Catapult)
