The many years of futile skirmishes with the mountainous tribes had come to an end, the memory of being placed within the Empire's militia stationed at Liangzhou was fresh as the air caressing the face. To turn ones blade against your mentors is one thing that many do not wish to experience, yet, the heart fought strong and overcome obstacles to bring the victory. However, one can never underestimate the strength of the Qiang, whose cavalry came charging in a counterattack to devestate the ranks and plunder the morale devouring the territory of the locals. The eyes closed remenicing the many faces of the disbandening troops that fled in fear of their lives; leaving the lead vulnerable and open to the enemy. Soon enough all had been lost and it was time for the fate to be placed to the blade.
However, that day the Heavens had placed their wings around Shoucheng for his escape to fight another day; having further plans for the stallion of the mountains. With haste he fled into the mountains, seeking a dear friend of his, by the name of Han Sui; a fellow Qiang general of much worth..they had sworn brotherhood and he could find refuge with him. A sigh left the Governor's lips as the Palace main chamber was empty, allowing Ma to gain his thoughts as the many Palace attendants, officials and military officers to gather before him... Upon the battlefield, the two brethren fought as one entity and became a force that rushed the battle to their desires. However, mistakes were made and they had been pushed back, forcing them once again to flee. The Empire had looked onto them with compassion and took them within its embrace to elovate them to protectors of the Wuwei region; gaining military rank and Ma Teng being placed as Magistrate of Wuwei.
As the many hordes flooded the room, Shoucheng's eyes gradually opened to view the council that he had been blessed with; many of talent and some of questionable means. Yet, there was something missing from this audience, turning to face the dai to his right; the very seating that Han Sui would take to. One day they would be reunited, such a day would present the land that these men are not to be overlooked. "Council of Wuwei, our region has seen much hardship, unfortunately more shall be placed before our gates. We must move as one, unified against all odds and protect those who are dear." Taking the beard goatee into hand, light strokes as if caressing thought to appear from the depths of his mind; the courtiers nodding to his words.. "First, we must prepare relations with our clansmen, those of the Qiang tribes to the North; we cannot forgot about our mountainous brethren." Many of the officials disliked the term 'brethren' when refering to tribes that were infamous for rebelling against the Empire, however, they were an indeed formidable strength; one that would be beneficial to have as an ally.
"Indeed the timing is sudden, but, we must widen our embrace to the Liang region and stabilise the populace. However, I question you this, which shall be the beginning? Shall be enter Yong and place Tianshui into our territory, or perhaps, seek the whole of Liang and advance to Anding?" Not sure whether it was a rhetoric question, Shoucheng knew that Han Sui would have good council upon this matter. Nonetheless, the cavalier general's stern gaze looked upon his audience and read the many faces that stared back at him; wondering where his son was..yet, knowing Chao he would propose to gain both cities, a courageous boy; that has a lot to learn.. Wishing to find solace in his men, Ma knew that the matter of the moving Capital should take centre stage; however, he felt that he could not press the matter until the treacherous generals Li Jue and Guo Si acted upon their dictatorship..wishing to know their intentions and of course, to see if it was truely a tyranny...

The coldness of Wu Wei was well known throughout all of China, but until today Wei Yan had never had the pleasure of embracing it. For a moment it made him grip his furs to his chest, but that quickly stopped when he noticed the guards of the palace eyeing him. He was to be a warrior, not a child shivering against his mother's leg. With a brief snarl against his own immaturity, he pressed on up to the heavy doors of the palace.
"State your name and business with Lord Ma Teng, warrior." stated one guard flatly while the other just watched. The horselord of Wu Wei kept good guards for them to not have been shaken at the sight of the warrior. For that Wei Yan respected them and acted as so
"My name is Wei Yan. I hail from Chang An and wish to see about possibly joining your lords forces. Surely he could use another strong arm?" The final sentence came with a joking laugh as he raised his head from his very slight bow. Both guards nodded and almost instinctfully reached out awaiting his weapons.
With a sigh, Yan took from him his spear, shield, and ax. The guards literally were in awe for a moment when they realized he was so easy to compromise. Most large men get the bad reputation for being biligerent and unruley. Yan was neither of these under the right circumstances. With the exchange of weapons they opened the doors and a servent led him to the throne room.
The double doors opened and through them stepped Wei Yan in his furs and with an obvious hint of pride in his step. He moved up to the middle of the room stopped, bowed and then preceded forward within spreaking range, kneeling down on one knee. He looked at the floor for a few moments before looking up.
"Lord Ma Teng, I come wondering if you are in need of warriors. An extra blade to your cause. My name is Wei Yan and I've brought two thousand soldiers along with myself to aid you in your flight if you'll have us." stated the warrior directly, but respectfully.

As the council was proceeding, the guards at the gate stood in astonishment to see such a monster approach to serve the Governor of Wuwei; mostly men glad in armour presented themselves. However, with the fur covered warrior they spoke no words, simply taking the weapons that was happily passed over; Teng felt that it could be insulting to search one who claims to be a friend. Yet, the guards did not wish to argue, their youth not letting them; for the weapons he wielded looked vicious..rather be behind such strength than infront of it. Officials were to greet him, escorting the beast into the main hall; they stood aside from him, not out of respect but fear.. Wei Yan announced himself, the officials glancing and taking it as a sign of insolence on his part; words about to surge. The gesture was made, the court was adjorned and all officials ordered to leave with one simply gesture of the Governor's hand; the respect he had been blessed with did not gain question. It was no lie that Ma Teng was taken back, but the boldness of the warrior impressed him; it presented him something that he had been lacking within his force..the concentration of physical prowess, the true warrior that each Kingdom needs not only as a power unit but the back bone.
Rising from the dai, Teng uttered no words in responce, merely slowly approached Wei observing his person; the muscles..the stance..features..the furs, a clear indication that he was not used to the climates of Wuwei. It impressed him further that he did not seem bothered about the cold, the hardy being that would elovate his forces forward. As a smile gradually appeared on his lips, the Govenor finally stopped; Teng's fierce eyes focused upon Wei's.. Nodding, the Govenor bowed to the visitor.. It was far lower than to one that held no rank. "It seems that Wuwei has been blessed today." Chuckling, the Govenor waved for a raised dai to be brought for the guessed; he was going to be seated at the same level as Teng..many officials wished to speak up, as never before had he acted in such a way; but, he saw something within the warrior..thus, he was to be treated as an honoured guest..no..like a clansmen. "Master Wei Yan, your name is known to me. A General of Chang'an, though..why do you wish to serve so far North, what troubles occured to push you away from the Capital's embrace?" Placing himself back upon his dai, Ma Teng raised a single eyebrow as he made his query; it was not a question through seriousness, as the tone was light...though he knew full well why anyone would flee the Capital to serve another, those beings Li Jue and Guo Si had much to answer for.
A serving maid was to Wei's side, on orders of Teng to see to his every whim; if he wished for food, he would be given it..a drink, then she would pour it. "I'm sure you are aware of what men I have in my force, yet none of them could compare to a warrior such as yourself. If it is not strange, Master Wei, but your stay within Wuwei maybe short." A small chuckle left his lips, Teng hoped that he would sense the joking tone..however, hidden was a small message, one that the Govenor hoped he read; already Ma Teng was setting a plan for Wei to take up arms on expansion of his territory...

A raised dias? This was completely unexpected. Honestly, if anything, the Wei Yan was expecting to be criticized for his bluntness and asked to step back from the throne, but a raised dias? Well, he had chosen the right person to come give his loyalty too.
With cautious steps the warrior raised himself from his knee and made his way up to the seat. When he first sat down it was overly obvious he wasn't sure how to sit in a formal manner. After a few moments he sighed and slouched over resting his elbows on his knees. It was then he let his new lord's question come to his conscious thought process. He had been shown respect, and for that he would show honesty.
"The Imperial Army was... Well... It never wronged me. To be blunt, my lord, it is an unsettling area of my recent life. To avoid chewing the fat however, I'll put it simply," this time the warriors inhaled a long heavy breath before continuing, "I was given orders to quell an uprising. Given a handful of seasoned men. These orders came straight from the top. Honestly, I thought it was recognition for my seven years of service. I was... excited. When we arrived there was easily fifty armed, trained men. They didn't wear a banner or any recognizeable symbol, but we were beat. I called the retreat, we fled. A few losses, nothing too major. My commander at the time, Guo Si, didn't see it that way. I was quickly stripped of my rank and honor." A low snarl ushered as the warrior finished.
"Pah... I left a fortnight ago. I rode hard and fast to get here. I am a deserter of the Imperial Army, and they'll take me back on a pike if given the chance. Now you know." It was a defeated man who said the final bit. To say it was obvious would be an understatement, but that didn't last long. With a shake of the head and a quick drink of some tea that the servant girl seemed to pour with haste he was back to that monster that had entered the room. A smirk crossed the man's lips and he looked over to his new lord.
"So tell me, with my two thousand, can we even dare match some of the other regional lords? I hear Liu Yan is raising a force that even the Imperial Army is watching strictly." It was a joke, but to any other general the talk of men and fighting always seemd to be serious. To him, it was something he seemed to make light of. Maybe he was just being friendly? Who knew.

The Govenor listened intently the the story, while taking some entertainment in how awkward Wei felt with sitting upon a raised dais; something he most clearly did not do often. Yet, something touched Teng as he spoke, it was when the warrior confessed the defeat and flead; to his lands..he could have made haste to any region, but he came to his. Perhaps it was the furthest away that the Empire would not dare to traverse? Though, there was something he did not like seeing, the tones of a man beaten down and placed in self-exile. However, it was reassuring that the mannerisms of before returned with the latter of his words. Stroking the goatee while thinking upon the matter, Teng gestured for the serving girl to bring a small jug of wine; to be placed beside the Govenor and left..two cups beside it.
"Your tale Master Wei, does not give me the impression of a deserter; but one who wishes to survive and fight another day when a defeated warrior can revive the spirit. Uprisings need more than a 'handful' of men at times, however, the General Guo is somewhat a novice when it comes to these matters.. A sycophant used to being told what to do, now given the reigns to place order; he is as if a lost child." Chuckling to himself, Teng remembered the days where it was him who fought against the units of men that contained both Li Jue and Guo Si, now they had began to manipulate the Empire to their whims..it was as if all the bloodshed was for naught. But, Ma Teng had a similar story, for it was he who fought for the local authorities' militia against his clansmen of the Qiang; something that still today pained him. They were defeated, suffering the murder of their commander, thus allowing Teng to make quick his escape to the realms of the Qiang; there, he fought for the tribes that he grew up with, the people of his wife and children. This move, the Govenor thought, would not have allowed him to be in the position he was in now; for Huangfu Song would not have seen the abilities within.
"Such is the past my friend, it shall not be counted for with me; I care for the future of people. With this, you shall not be treated as you were back in Chang'an..for even I have suffered a defeat, it is an unfortunate event but it happens." Even the thought of Guo Si placed a bitter taste within his mouth, they were not fit to be placed as 'guardians' of the Empire; for they were minions of that vile Dong Zhuo after all.. Two barking dogs that had biten the hand that fet them, yet become too vicious to punish; to Teng, their days were numbered.
The latter made the Govenor allow a laugh to escape his lips, it was a difficult matter to think of; indeed many beings of worth had kowtowed to the Govenor Liu and a mere sum to Teng's own jurisdiction..but it did not phase him. "To underestimate a force merely because it is smaller in comparison, such a foolish mistake. However, I do not fear anyone with a man such as Wei Yan by my side." Another chuckle, noticing that the warrior was drinking tea. "Though our expansion will be slow, our strength shall grow fast; many do not expect much from the Qiang..another mistake, thus, those who believe I shall kowtow will simply find themselves trampled into the mud." It was no word of a lie that Teng was enjoying Wei's company, being quite some time since he had met someone such as he; a warrior who was blunt. It pleased the Govenor. Taking the jug of wine into hand, Teng rose from his dais and approached Wei who sat opposite him; a serving maid made quick to take the cups for her Lord. "You see, I have already set the ideas in motion to have the region of Xiliang and Yong placed into my jurisdiction; however, I would need you to handle those of Tianshui.. Anding, it is a city well known to me and I can give the townspeople security from the Qiang tribes who pillage when their supplies have dwindled; they are fierce warriors, but do not attack a clansmen."
One cup was taken into the hand of Teng and there, he poured the warmed wine for Wei; placing himself upon the steps up to the dais. Indeed it was strange conduct from a Govenor to a new recruit within his army, but, he sensed potential and so treated him as his own kinsmen. "Share drink with me Master Wei, however, the wines of the North may differ from others you have tasted." I small chuckle escaped. Many had found their wines too strong, with a sharp aftertaste that burst through the sweetness of the first time the wine touched the palate. Teng enjoyed it, for it was the first wine he had ever drank; though others found it strange. Passing the cup into Wei's hand, he then poured himself a drink and gave the jug back to the serving maid; Teng then saluted the warrior and took the warm liquid into his mouth, one mouthful was needed for it to be consumed...

"A man like Wei Yan, you say? My Lord you give too much honor to me. I'm here to do the grunt work. Be ankle deep in mud and blood. Any man could do what I do, I just tend to enjoy my work." joked Yan as if to humble himself after having such an ego boost. With a quick drink the warrior finished what tea he had left just as Ma Teng as pouring the wine.
The smell was enough to knock some men back. It was inviting for a moment, sweet like nectar, but seconds after that it was a harsh kick in the nose. The wine of Wu Wei was a commodity he'd never had the pleasure of indulging. From the smell of it, it had more bite than he did, and he carried an axe! A smirk crossed the warrior's face almost to accept the challenge. The wine was as expected, at first. It was sweet to the tongue, but the throat felt all the punishment. It took even the stature of the warrior by surprise a moment and his eye twinged at the feeling. Another smirk came as the wine was finished off though. It would take getting used to, but this humble maiden kinda wine was just the stuff a man needed to remind him he was human.
"You would be correct though, my lord. The size of an army is only a small piece of it's survival rate. I salute you on avoiding the question." It was a friendly chiding, but any other man may have taken it the wrong way. "So the Qiang Barbarians are clansmen to you? We hear tales of them in the Imperial ranks. They are suppose to be highly deadly warriors and barely matchable when mounted. So you keep them at bay and An Ding is thankful? So I'm guessing they'd accept your rule rather swiftly?" The question was obviously rhetorical as the warrior motioned for more wine.
"So then what of Tian Shui? You say you want me to handle it? Would I be wrong in thinking I'll be taking my men down and asking them to join us, once." The final word hung thick in the air. The part of the conversation Wei Yan had been waiting for had arrived. It was time to discuss the fighting. Of course, he was aware that all details would most likely be elaborated on in private later.

The Govenor found the reaction to the wine quite entertaining, for a hardy warrior such as Wei Yan to coild with a liquid; allowing a chuckle to escape his lips as had another jug brought forward..though he wished for another drink? Indeed one of thicker skin, however, it was not foolish move; as an officer now stationed within Wuwei, one had to adapt to the changes. Stroking the goatee, Teng listened to his words, chuckling when appropriate; indeed the Anding populace would kowtow to him..they feared most the 'barbarians' of the North. It amused the Wuwei ruler to hear that such terminology was still being used for the Qiang, who had a lower reputation than the Xiongnu or Xianbei; yet, it was expected. "They have kept the views of old I see. The Qiang indeed are my clansmen, my children have a Qiang mother and as a youth they were my foster-family." Teng took great pride in placing his name with connections to those mountainous tribes, for their names placed fear in a weak foe.. But, did not take offence when the words 'barbarians' were placed after their names; understanding too well how the Imperial army and court worked.
"I believe the people of Anding shall see the benefit of having a Govenor whose ties with the Northern tribes are strong, they fear most the unpredictable nature of the Qiang; pillaging, murder, rape.. With me at their vanguard, such would not occur." Such a matter would be dispelled with his son Ma Xiu, who had the complexion most closest to the Qiang; his features were strongest and mannerisms too were deep from the mountainous tribes. The matter of Tianshui was different, they had no threats from the Qiang, as their shield was Wuwei. Smiling to the hung word of 'once', a mouthful of wine was devoured. "Ah, those of Tianshui shall not be taken in by the security from the Qiang; the threat is not there. However, you can ask them once, if you wish; but I doubt they would answer with words." Chuckling, more wine was brought for the two men, with every jar more warm water was added so they did not become intoxicated so soon; or at all.. "I hope you are ready for arms so soon Master Wei?" Though a plan was set, Wei Yan would need to be acompanied and this was the thorn within the Govenor's side; should he place Ma Xiu with the warrior and he go towards Anding?..or the other way round, for Ma Teng to aid Wei Yan in the endeavour of bringing Tianshui into his jurisdiction?..

The occasional water was more than welcome. Unlike other warrior's he'd known, Wei Yan was not one for getting drunk off wine. It was a crippling idea to him. To lose the ability to control himself due to a drink. No, he was never the dependent kind. The mention of a Qiang tie so close was intriguing enough though that without the servent girl he probably would have mixed up the water and wine jugs.
"So not only were you raised by them, but you married into them? And look at you now. Here you are governing a province and leading armies. I think the stories of bloodthirsty mongrels we hear back east is a bit far-fetched, but there is truth to every lie sooner or later, so I won't take them for granted." His voice was thick with an obvious impressed tone. It was a true rags to riches story for him. Coming from a home that could take care of itself, until he was of age to hunt and fish at his whim, he'd never really seen the wild too much. But since he turned fourteen many harvests ago, he'd never looked back, and the furs that adorned his body could attest to that.
"It seems my judgement was almost perfect. A man raised by bar-" Yan paused for a moment rethinking the word and the man that set before him before continuing, " Warriors. Raised by warriors, turned into a legitmate legal ruler, and now heading an army atleast two thousand strong. Yes, you are quite a different breed. Someone I doubt will ever sell me short or give me orders I'll have to decline."
The mention of Tian Shui and the people being non-inviting made the biceps of the warrior twitch and jump a few times. He was a man who when being civil was in the eye of the storm, and whenever the war drums sounded threw himself headlong into the storm. With some shifting in his seat it was obvious he was overly anxious to be out doing something, anything.
"Well if they are that friendly then maybe the once will be after I've proven my point to them thoroughly. Yes, my lord, I am ready to do as you command: be it bring Tian Shui under our rule, or make sure your garden is tended. I am here to serve now." A sly smirk came across the warrior's face as he paused, "But please don't make me do the latter."

The Govenor raised an eyebrow and saluted Wei a little to his analogies of the past, though it was near enough exact there were of course some pieces missing; that did not matter at a time like this. The changing of barbarians to warriors was a welcomed change, however, hearing many stories of the people he grew up with did not change his disposition. "Indeed there are people among the Qiang who crave the blood of others, yet, is there not in every land? To them, we are uncivilised and vice versa." Chuckling about the matter, Teng hoped it would not place a too serious tone on things; after all, the lapse attitude in Wei was refreshing..sychophants had become too many, indeed the company of some could be enjoyable to a point; but constantly, there had to be changes..
"I see no qualms with your judgement in proving your point those of Tianshui and you shall not be alone in your endeavour; for my son, Ma Xiu, shall accompany. Xiu is a keen General, one who has much potential but also much to learn." Another chuckle left the Govenor's lips as he heard the mention of 'tending' to his garden, the thought of him accepting a duty such as that amused Teng..making it a possibility for pure entertainment. "Do not worry, I have people to take such a duty from you." Taking another sip of the watered wine, he wondered if he had acquired a man of the liquid; so many warriors were reknown for their consumption of alcohol.. It was truth that Ma Teng enjoyed it, but not to the excesses of others; wishing to keep a clear mind at all times..for any eventuality. "Unless that was a subtle way of requesting a personal garden?" It was hard to hide the smile, along with a slight childish snicker...

A personal garden? Really? Oh he has jokes... The warrior couldn't help but laugh as he shook his head and relaxed a bit on the dias.
"No no no... I don't need a personal garden. You can keep that femine work in someone else's hands. If I want to relax I'll go fish or swim." A chuckle came throughout the whole dialogue. Wei Yan was not a man who partaked in humor unless he felt fully relaxed and this was a time when he could say he did, minus his lack of weapons.
The humor was broke when he realized the afore mentioned Tian Shui. His new lord was entrusting him with the protection of his son, on his very first outing as a representative of Ma Teng. He was honored to say the least, along with a bit overwhelmed, but that was not to be shown.
"Ma Xiu you say? Your son? Very well. I'm sure he'll prove to be a fine help. It will look much more respectable with a member of the Ma family present. That way no one mistakes me for a bandit. My lord, I will make sure your son returns home with not a single scratch, this is my promise." His tone had sharply changed from humor to strict determination. He was a man of action to the core, no matter how much he laughed or how much blood he spilled. It was always about a purpose or maintaining his honorable way of life. This was a way for him to prove himself, and he was not the kind of man to fail.

As the joking continued, the laughter flowed as if the two had known each other some time; perhaps their names were, but not person. The Govenor seemed quite relaxed and noticed, too, that Wei became more comfortable within his dais..perhaps he could remain within Tianshui?.. Yes, it was a strategic point and would be the front garison of his force; who else to guard the front than a man such as he?. Perhaps Xiu would be the wrong choise, after all he could be stationed within Anding; for his ties with the Qiang were far stronger than his own..for it ran in Xiu's blood. "I place trust within you Master Wei, however, on second thoughts I shall not send my son Xiu as your sub-bordinate; I have a better idea. My youngest son, Tie, is in need of education and experience; he does not excell in the affairs of a General, but his talents a warrior is quite something. It would benefit him to gain the experience with you." Nodding to his own plan, the thought was concrete.. "Do not treat Tie as the son of your Liege, he must be spoken to as any soldier; otherwise, he shall not learn the true experiences of battle..lineage is not taken into account within war." It was a method that Teng's own father planted into him so many times, that one must gain their own ground without falling upon heritage to save you..for one day, it would not be there to be the shield; leaving one vulnerable...
Taking a sip to wet the palate, the Govenor smiled to his new General; a fine addition, he could not be more thankful to the Heavens for having him flea to his lands. "I have another request for you, once Tianshui falls to us; I wish for you to remain there. Have my son then sent onto Anding. The city shall be in your care, a Prefect position but creating it a military base perhaps." The officials who wondered to-and-thro about there business were a bit taken back, for Wei Yan had just pledged his allegancy to the Govenor..and now, he was offered a city. "My reasoning? I believe that within Chang'an, you were not given any true chances, indeed you reached military rank; but it was striken from you so easily. This shall not be the case, for I have much faith in you." The responce of Wei intrigued the Govenor, unsure of how he would react to such an offer..of course Teng would not hear any different but it still was interesting to see how it was recieved. Also, it was genuine, though they had only met..Teng could see something within him, the virtues of a warrior, similar to him honour ran true; thus, the Govenor felt he could place all trust into his new General...

A younger son? Teach him? He's not to be lineage? Heh... A drill-master I can be. For a moment the warrior was lost in thought about all he had been told when it came to Tian Shui. But one word brought him rushing back to reality.
"Prefect." he repeated slowly under his breath. A warrior as a prefect? He could run a barracks, but he wasn't sure if he could run a city. But uncertainty wasn't something he enjoyed showing. With a slow heavy breath he nodded to himself before looking over at his new lord.
"You wish me to take control of Tian Shui and then maintain that control? For you, my lord, I can do this. I will take your youngest son to the field of battle with me and make sure he is shown the way of a general and when I break for the battlefield I'll make sure from hilltop he knows how a general leads by example. This I can do for sure. I am not a scholar or a great teacher, but I can lead any type of man you give me, even a possibly naive boy." Afterwards another heavy breath came, almost to remind himself that he was indeed doing this. He was going to try and rule a city.

The Govenor was pleased with the responce, for objections would show that he doubted his skills; something he could not risk within his forces..indeed many would speak like that through modesty and respect, but Teng wished to see confidence within his officers. Observing the nerves which than shifted to his usual manner, he nodded as the latter were spoken. "If I wished for such a mentor, I would have placed one soon enough. However, it is not my wish, for Tie has inerited much from his mother; yet wishes to take to battle. I do not want to risk his life, thus under you care he can learn the hardships. Something I'd rather he leanr in a minor skirmish, then a large war where mistakes are too fatal to make." Stroking his goatee, Teng thought more of his son..the young Tie, a naive bow yet skilled with a weapon; it was an odd combination and the source was unknown to him.
"To have strangers fight upon the battlefield, it may not play to our advantage." Teng turned to his serving maid. "Fetch my son Tie, we shall introduce him to Master Wei before preparations are made." It was a swift gesture of the hand to make the maid move with haste to fetch Ma Tie. Placing attention back to Wei, the Govenor thought more upon the new General. "You spoke of 2000 men as followers, what are they trained in?" From the apperance of Wei Yan, he would not be surprised if he had no mounted troops within us contingent; perhaps those of swords and pikes? It was interesting to see that others have their men drilled within certain types of militia. Furthermore, they need Generals to handle the infantry, for Wuwei was famed for cavaliers; the Majority of the Ma family came into this infamous production.

It was almost on que with when the servent left to fetch Ma Tei that the warrior set up straight and raised his chin. He returned to the look he had had when he entered into the throne room. His features were strong, his pose was proud, and he nodded to himself in acceptance of his state.
"It will be an honor to meet your son, for I agree strangers should never go into battle together." Wei Yan stated almost systematically. His strict training in Imperial Army showed through for the first time. He didn't sound to be a drone, but it was obvious he was trying to sound as pleasing as possible. Some habits die hard, was the only thought before he realized he'd been asked about his men. This lightened his drill seargent demeanor.
"I've brought with me a thousand of Zhongyuan's finest spearmen. They are trained with spear and shield, and with them I will hold any ground you wish." his voice paused and it was obvious he took pride in his spear and shieldsmen, afterall he was a brother-in-arms with them. "Next I have five hundred of Zhongyuan's very own swordsmen. They are versatile sword and board fighters and are a great accent to the phalanx line before them. After them is three hundred Zhongyuan cavalry. They are nothing compared to something the Qiang could train, but for flanking and quick raids I turn them and they do not fail to disappoint. Finally though, I have brought two hundred of Zhongyuan's bowmen. I have no taste for crossbowmen, but these longbowmen have never let me down in accuracy and killing power. These are the men I bring to you my lord, Ma Teng. They will be a blessing to any army you have standing right now. This is for certain."
After his long spill the warrior nodded his self-approval again and patiently awaited the arrival of his soon to be second, Ma Tie.
