Being the youngest Global mod of the site, gives me the more recent experiences. I joined this site with little of to no roleplay knowledge. A roleplay game would be considered to me as a turn based game much like Final Fantasy or Pokemon (Yeah, i'm a douche.. ).
I've been with this site for almost a year now and my posts have improve dramatically and heres a little guide written by me to teach the new people or even the older people trying to advance even further.
First thing i'd like to mention isn't the size of your posts, you may see some of the more veteran members of the site or other sites posting several paragraphs, work at your own pace! Don't push yourself it will come eventually if you practise over and over again. Bigger posts can be intimidating sometimes but work at your own speed.
Senses
First thing i like to do is build up around the senses, something really simple that i learned at a young age and something really easy to remember and get really descriptive about. Go all out, describe things in full.
Some really basic things, give a good picture of the enviroment around you and you'll be getting longer and more quality filled posts.
Plots
Try to keep them as interesting as possible, it will help you alot. Unusual things happening and other things. Nobody likes a boring plot and with a dull thing to post about, you post is going to be dull! Spice things up for yourself and your fellow roleplayers. Try something new for a change, perhaps consider a free roleplay rather then dynasty warriors.
Practice
Practice obviously will improve you on its own, it took me 3,000 posts to get me where i am and even i'm still improve (arrogant face). But yeah whether its in your english classes, reading literature, watching movings or merely posting on sites like this one. Everything is good for you, you can only get better!
Interests
Find people who share your interests or your roleplay style. Theres little point in roleplaying with people who laugh smashing everyone in sight and mauling innocents if your a complete pacifist, think logically! Use other peoples interests to boost your own.
Personal Development
You character can become anyone you want him or her to be. ANYONE! Don't be lame and stick to the boundaries, break the mould. Give something the enemy something to be scared of. If your struggling to think then base things around your life. If things are going swell in your life you might want to influence your character in that way. Everything develops your character from the smallest greeting to most epic battle victory.
