Provincial Economy and the Ranking Class System
Many sites like to promote differences in the social and economic structure of their civilisations. Here, on Sanguo Shidai we felt it was more important to step back and evaluate new ways of running the economy without making it harder for the player. As some have already found out, I am very big on setting up new, complicated and somewhat realistic systems whereby economy is gained through a process of variables. Here however all of that is scraped, instead we have 2 sources of actual income. The first way is through Provincial pay, which is a ruler only pay system that I’ll elaborate on a little later on and then you get the main source of pay – which is the new Rank Class System.
So let’s begin:
Provincial Economy
This was a later design created by Liu Yan (Steve), but one that is realistic to a certain extent. When somebody takes control of an ENTIRE province they receive a bonus. This bonus exists only for as long as the region is in your control. If it gets attacked and you lose, you also lose the bonus. Now, the bonus! (Also, it is important to remind you that every city comes with a base income, which is kingdom specific. By that I mean the RULER collects the revenue from their kingdoms cities every Friday-Saturday along with their own Ranked pay)
So, as I was going to say…when you control a province you'll have to look at the below list to see which 'multiplier' to use. Don't worry - I'll explain it all soon. The multiplier is a trade increase, or it’s a provincial increase - whatever way you want to justify it is fine by me.
Provincial Multipliers
You: 0.19
Ji: 0.23
Yan: 0.16
Si Li: 0.30
Yu: 0.24
Qing: 0.10
Xu: 0.11
Huai Nan: 0.11
Jing Bei: 0.32
Jing Nan: 0.34
Yang: 0.31
Yong: 0.11
Xi Liang: 0.23
Yi: 0.39
Nanzhong: 0.18
Oh no! It’s maths! RUN AWAY! Seriously, this is really easy to do. When you receive the above multiplier you simply times your current cities revenue by the above figure, an example:
190 x 0.22 = 41.8 (Round up to 42) - This is how much the multiplier increases that cities revenue, so the only other sum is:
190 + 42 = 232
You use this multi pier on every city IN THAT province. If you lose control of a city in the province you lose the BONUS to every city within that province also, so defend your territory well! Add the multiplier below the cities revenue, so that when you do lose it you don't have to do the reverse step - you know that each city gives you (static revenue + the below bonus).
Ranking Class System
Okay, so there will be a universal ranking system that this site will use, and these ranks will be the pay you receive per week. As you'll see, the ranks are broken down into 'sections' where the emperor has to be the one to confer the (title).
So this is how it works. Everybody by default (except for regional lords, who are governors) start off as a free officer. As an officer to a kingdom you cannot decide which pay-scale you're on, you can't jump the chain. If you're assigned to a governor you can confer upon others another title, so officers will always be better off serving a 'larger' kingdom, as they will be receiving better titles. A ruler can only confer 1 title per person. A ruler can also only ever confer titles ABOVE their own rank (literal meaning of the word 'above', emperor is listed at the bottom, so all titles are available for them to hand out)
Also... Ranks now also reflect the 'cap' associated with your personal army. It is silly to assume that a ronin will field an army equal to a prime minister. So you are only allowed to field the troops stated by your official rank.
The Ranks.
Free Officer - 100 gold - 3000 Troops
Officer - 125 gold - 4500 Troops
Commander - 150 gold - 5000 Troops
Advisor - 150 gold - 5000 Troops

Marching General - 200 gold - 5500 Troops
Field Commander - 225 gold - 5500 Troops
Van Leader - 235 gold - 6000 Troops
Counselor - 250 gold - 6500 Troops
General - 250 gold - 6500 Troops
Field Marshal - 265 gold - 7000 Troops
Chief of the Commissariat - 275 gold - 7000 Troops
Imperial Protector (title) - 300 gold - 7500 Troops
Imperial Inspector - 300 gold - 7000 Troops
Imperial Counselor - 300 gold - 7000 Troops
Imperial General - 300 gold - 7000 Troops
General of the Left - 315 gold - 7500 Troops

Grand Minister - 430 gold - 9500 Troops
Chair of the Internal Affairs - 440 gold - 10,000 Troops

Imperial Guardian - 470 gold - 11,00 Troops
Treasurer - 480 gold - 10,000 Troops
Marquis (title) - 500 gold - 12,500 Troops
Prime Minister (title) - 600 gold - 15,000 Troops
Emperor-Empress (Self-Proclaimed Title/Usurpation) - 1000 gold - 20,000 Troops
So to sum it up. An officer worries ONLY about the rank they’re given by their governor/ruler. By default they’re classed as ronins.
A ruler will collect the pay of their cities first and then claim the gold given to them by their title/rank. A ruler has the responsibility of sharing their kingdoms wealth amongst their people.
