The populace is thrown assunder, unsure whether to bow to the Empire as tradition persists or to kowtow to another who claims virtue is their path and peace the destination they wish to lead them. One would believe that the cracks could not be seen, for the regional lords came flocking to the Empire's rescue as Regent Marshal He Jin rose against the rebellious militia of the Yellow Scarves, lead by Zhang Jue; a man who had failed the Imperial bureaucratic examinations. Settled the people were not prepared for the attempts at purging the court of scourges, that took form of the 10 Regular Attendants; beings placed in high office to oversee the Imperial harem. The Regent Marshal fell to their tricks and one being of Longxi Commandery, Dong Zhuo. A man whose ruthless nature was known to many, large in physique and large in desires; carnal and riches. To his aide was a cunning fox that knew how to thrust his master into high office and take hold of the Imperial Court with one sweep. On Imperial orders, the beast devoured the Eunuchs and made example of any treacherous behaviour; Court officials trembled within their hats.
However, to Dong's left came a warrior from a past of betrayal and might; the 'mighty' Lu Bu. Taken in as a son he was treated handsomely and all feared the day that his presence would be standing within his path. The Emperor Shao dethroned, replaced by his younger sibling Liu Xie who was created Emperor Xian; a naive boy who Dong Zhuo could manipulate to each of his whims. What of the elder, Emperor Shao? A weak young man who was placed within the towers of the Palace of Perpetual Peace, alongside his mother, the Empress He and a beloved consort. Their fate known, it was Li Ru to bring the destiny for them to fade into; poison for each, a toast to their longevity from the 'concerned' Dong Zhuo. Objection thrown to the snake, forcing it to coil and force the liquid down the young Emperor's throat, the Empress Dowager thrown from the window as easy as throwing dust to the ground; the Consort, strangled to travel with her bloved.
In disarray the court was thrown and many of the regional lords showed great discomfort to this man's attempt at usurpation of the Dragon Throne. One rose, decree in hand and sword wielded to the side, fearless of what the military the large beast controlled. None other than Cao Cao, with the aide of his childhood friend Yuan Shao gathered a coalition of prominent warlords and self-proclaimed 'heroes'. As they plotted the demise of Dong Zhuo through external ideas, within the officials could not wait any longer to bring justice to the man who embodied the essence of a true traitor. Minister over the Masses, Wang Yun, old in frame but young in mind, acted upon this with wise intuition and sort himself to be the hero of this time. A maid was the key, by the name of Diaochan, that would be used to coerse the 'faithful' warrior Lu Bu in acting as old; to cut down Dong Zhuo and free the Emperor from his cage. In a whirlwind of passion and subtle seduction, the maid took on the role of the celestial harlot in taking both Lu Bu and Dong Zhuo into her embrace. Indebted to her master, the maid turned the relationship between the two men into hatred and jealousy, both wishing to tear apart each other simply to claim ownership of the secret courtesan. To the Imperial Capital advanced the coalition, pressing hard the attack with loses on both sides however, it was not the strength of Dong Zhuo, the cunning of Li Ru or the prowess of Lu Bu to diminish it into collapsing. But, the self interest that drove the regional lords of the coaltion. Arguement, sly words, personal attacks and mere recklessness drove the sword deep into the heart of the allies; it fell, left abandoned...
False tears drove the halberd into the neck, severing the head of a man who treated him so kindly and for what? The embrace of a woman who could not bare him any heirs. The masses cheered and spoke of Lu Bu's praises, yet he was blind to those most loyal to their fallen master; believing that he was undeserving of the fate forced upon him. Rising once again, they claimed to flush the traitor out; this time, the blade was directed to Lu Bu. Fleeing, with his courtesan, the once stalwart warrior set his foundations within the city of Puyang; unsure whether those around him are allies or subtle foes. In the name of the Emperor, two Generals elovated themselves to power; Li Jue and Guo Si. Loyal to Dong Zhuo and uneasy in friendship, to the regional lords they hold their dear Emperor hostage; promoting those that lacked ability but were strong in loyalty to the two Generals. Chang'an now the home of the Capital, forced to mobilise from the Imperial City that lay waste, burnt to the ground by their late master; many turning their blades in the direction of their necks.
To the North two famed Warlords beat the drums of power, colliding in opinion and desires of each others lands making their relation tainted with incoherence; neighbours at quarel. The former being a noble whose family served the Empire faithfully for four generations, the esteemed Yuan Shao. While the latter, a distinct man of military and general whose talents are unclear; foolish or clever, no one is the wiser. Gongsun Zan. Surrounding Lu Bu of Puyang is a man of reckoning, strategies circulate in his mind and his ideals must be closely watched. Towards the Empire he bows but his gaze is to the future that he wishes to carve; Cao Cao. Travelling South would present arrogance in its finest form, the younger brother of Yuan Shao, a man whose temperament is short and easily lit. Fame is his desires and riches common place with all that he performs; Yuan Shu. An undistated Govenor is upon his borders, one that is known for loyalty and political precision; but lacks in ambition and of course the vital comodity, drive. Wang Lang. However, there is one that Yuan Shu must concern himself, another bordering Warlord that takes the persona of a tiger to heart and wields a blade for justice, family honour and the dreams of his ancestors. Sun Ce. Taking the Central stage, two beings of the same household and of course Imperial lineage is their advantage; yet their aspirations unclear. One, Liu Bei, a mat weaver who is known for kindness and promotion of 'virture'; yet these are still things to truely see. The other, Liu Biao, an astute man whose strategies are without question, his followers loyal and of the hardest material; however, he has gained his fatal flaw through the 'dear' wife. A tongue of steel that could bend her husband into any direction she wished. Journey to the West and fine another of the royal clansmen, Liu Yan, one who is driven by ambition and has secret interests of his own; but as so many, has yet to embark on the harsh path to attain them. Finally, the North Western regions of the mountains. A Commander of cavalry and leader of knowledgable veterans, who takes great care in knowing which path is for him. Ma Teng.
All hold the hilt of a blade firmly, not knowing which foot to place forward first as their gaze is upon each other; one must act..though even the sages of old could not decide which one would ascend to highest command, or possibly, to embrace the Dragon and hold the Heavens within their grasp...
