Gao Shun had now served for months as an officer in the army of Liu Biao, lord and Imperial Protector of Chu. However, though his lord seemed to have become fully trusting of him in that time, Gao Shun still did not trust himself as a warrior and as an officer of a court where loyalty to the Emperor and to the Han was paramount.
However he knew that soon he would be presented with an opportunity not only to prove himself as a warrior and officer, but to prove that he had long passed his days as a general for the despicable Dong Zhuo. Instead he would serve until death as a General for lord Liu Biao and for the will of the Emperor. Mounting his horse he turns to Cao Xing, his long-held compatriot and with a very dissatisfied look upon his face says to his fellow warrior:
My friend I will be back in a few days. I wish to go on a journey of reflection......alone. If there is any sort of movement on our various fronts militarily and Lord Liu Biao is in need of our arms lead our forces and I shall join you once I return. Now do not deny me this for I must go for my own sanity and to prove to myself that I have surpassed what I once was as an officer of that demon Dong Zhuo.
Though a frown quickly crossed his face, Cao Xing looks at his lord with approval in his eyes. Though Xing had quickly gotten over what he had done as an officer of Dong Zhuo, he knew that Lord Gao Shun was a far more loyal and kindhearted man than he.
General, I shall do as you command, however return as soon as you possibly can, I fear that war may be upon the horizon.
With that Gao Shun nods his head and turns about his steed. He also felt the fear running rampant throughout the Han. The land was ripe for an uprising and a most frightful one at that. His former compatriots in Chang An would not seat near the throne for much longer...
